Challenges
In the process of extracting hydrogen from natural gas according to the steam refracturing production method, water steam is used as the main energy flow provider. Under the previous conditions super-heated steam was produced with natural gas-fired steam boilers. Throughout the year the boilers operated predominantly at base load, and therefore the conditions for installing a CHP plant and reducing heat and power costs were fulfilled.
With regard to integrating CHP plants into the existing system, the challenge was the space limitations of the premises.
Solutions
We supplied and installed a cogeneration unit (CHP) with 1 x 550 kW nominal power that feeds the steam generator with the waste heat of flue gasses, and in this way produces technological steam according to the project parameters. The system is designed to operate and ensure technological steam and power throughout the year, i.e. for 8,760 operating hours. Meeting the base load consumption and operating the CHP plant at nominal conditions enables the total annual efficiency to reach over 90%.
Eko Star, acting in the role of 2G Energy’s partner, took over the supply and installation of 2G Energy technological equipment, as well as long-term maintenance of the entire facility.
